A young father from the 22nd Infantry Regiment. The 22nd spent the war in home guard action. First seizing German ships in New York harbor. Company L spent some time at the Frankford Arsenal, Pennsylvania supplying guards for Cramp's Shipbuilding Company in
Philadelphia, PA and Gloucester, NJ.

Fort Niagara


During the war Fort Niagara was used as a training post and processing barracks. This soldier spent his hot July waiting for a commission or at least a transfer to France.

Fort Slocum



A group from Fort Slocum. An army post that opened in 1896 and was used during the war as a recruit depot. Approximately 140,000 soldiers were process here.

Plattsburgh Movement

The Plattsburgh Movement started in 1915. It was an effort by private citizens to prepare for the possible United States entry into the war. Camps were held to prepare volunteers for military service. Gaston was one of 1500 men in the camp in Plattsburgh during the summer of 1916.
