Near the Somme
The translation given with this card was "Here we have been during the Somme battle. At the right and the left marching columns. Near the Somme." The Germans were at this location long enough to warrant placing sandbags around all of the tents. The near column is a supply train while the soldiers march in the far one.
Sapper Newson
Sapper Newson of the 486th (2/1st East Anglian) Field Company, Corps of Royal Engineers in Egypt in 1916. There they were part of the Suez Canal defenses. Before that they were in Gallipoli.
